How to add warmth to your home using handmade or bespoke products

When it comes to giving your home more warmth, it’s not as difficult as you might think. Really you just need to fill your rooms with things you love, rather than worrying about whether pieces work together. You could be adventurous and use lots of fun and colourful fabrics, textures and layers, and mix and match them to create a colourful explosion of patterns in contrasting colours.

The important thing is to have fun get really creative. Don’t be afraid to try loads of different combinations as often it’s the accidental mixes of household objects that work the best and will add true personality to your home. And here we are sharing a few tips and tricks to get you started!

Reclaimed materials and recycled wood

If you want a lived-in look it’s best that the materials that you use have lived a bit. Try and avoid decor and furniture that looks shiny and feels cold – this is important because you won’t achieve a cosy and inviting look if you do. Instead try and stick with reclaimed wood and recycled materials that are softer on the eye and will add a snugly feel to the room.

Go vintage

If you’re looking to fill an unused space, a quirky yet charming vintage chair will do the job perfectly. Be it a soft arm chair for you to curl up in with a book or a focal spot to pop a collection of plants.

You can also add quirky oddities to you décor or re purpose old objects and the best places to seek these out are antiques shops, vintage fairs, reclamation yards and boot sales so get out there and enjoy the hunt.

Get into the Fabric of your life

Adding layers of colour through textiles can bind your home together. Tapestries on the walls and blankets waiting to be snuggled under bring a richness that is hard to beat. Bring in soft rugs to give focus to different areas in your house and don’t be afraid to be bold.
